Our Story
The inspiration to donate backpacks to needy children came after Suvel went to India to watch his older brother, Suchir, the founder of LightUpIndia, give solar lamps to needy families in rural villages. This experience of seeing his older brother help other people inspired Suvel to want to give back to the community as well. As he passed through the village, he realized that many people could not afford basic school items. From there he remembered seeing kids in a school carrying their books and supplies because they could not afford backpacks. Suvel decided that giving backpacks and new school supplies to students would help increase the quality of their education and set them up for success. He gave one of his family friends in the village the backpack he had brought to India, and saw how much of a difference it made. However, Suvel realized that the need was enormous, that it would take a lot more than the few backpacks he had to give to help many others. From there, BackpacksForSuccess.org was born in order to raise money for these children.
